Community Fund applications to close on 28
June
Less than two weeks remain before applications for the Contact Epic Community Fund close on Sunday, 28 June.
Established to help support the development of a safe, capable and connected Hawea District community, the Contact Epic Community Fund has been created to promote the wellbeing and sustainable development of the Hawea district, and to foster values and actions consistent with a cohesive and nurturing community.
Administered by the Hawea Community Association, the Fund is made up of contributions from both Contact Energy and LMS Events, who organise the Contact Epic. Both parties have contributed $5 for every participant for the 2015 Contact Epic event, as well as committing to making the same contributions for the 2016 and 2017 events, which coincides with the 10 year anniversary of the Contact Epic event.
This year the Fund totals $6,380, and is open to both community groups from across the Hawea district and resident individuals.
“This is the first year of the Contact Epic Community Fund, so we’re pretty excited about receiving applications from interested parties before applications close on Sunday, 28 June, 2015,” says Contact Community Relations Manager, Craig Griffiths.
“We anticipate a significant proportion of the Fund will go towards groups who are actively undertaking initiatives which directly benefit or assist the Hawea community in some way.
“That said, both LMS Events and Contact recognise the importance of personal development and the value in achieving individual challenges and goals too, so we also look forward to welcoming applications from individuals resident in the Hawea community.”
Mr. Griffiths says there are no pre-defined limits as to the number of potential funding recipients.
“We haven’t set limits as to the number of funding applications we’ll grant. We’ll go through all of the applications and assess each of them on their merits, ranking them according to their fit with the Fund’s objectives. Funding will be distributed to groups and individuals on that basis until the funding runs out.”
For the purposes of the Fund, the Hawea District encompasses the communities of Lake Hawea, Hawea Flat, John Creek, the Maungawera Valley, and in the remote headwaters of Lake Hawea, the two small farming communities of the Dingleburn and Hunter Valley high country farming stations.
Applications close on Sunday, 28 June, 2015. A panel with representatives from Contact Energy, LMS Events and the Hawea Community Association, will review short listed applications, and successful applicants will be notified on or before Sunday, 9 August 2015.
