Dog registration online payment popular
More than 5500 people have registered their dogs on Christchurch City Council's website since a new online payment facility was introduced last week.
Dog registration application forms were mailed to 29,785 dog owners with a newsletter encouraging online payment.
Response to the online payment of dog registration has been positive with 98.3 per cent of the 2483 people who completed a survey at the end of the online payment process saying it was easy.
Council's Customer Services Unit Manager Sarah Numan says she is very pleased with how many people are paying their dog registration online.
"The number of people that have registered their dog so far this year is more than at the same time last year, so that indicates the process is easier and online payment has contributed to that increase," she says.
"We like to make things as easy as possible for our customers so we are happy to have the new online payment solution and it's great that people are finding it useful."
Online payment is possible in just three easy steps - check your details are correct on your dog registration form, use your CCC Owner ID to access the payment process, and pay using a credit card or online banking details. Once payment has been made, the Council posts a registration disc to the dog owner.
Dog registrations can also be paid by phoning 941 8999 with a credit card, in person at any Council Customer Service Desk, or by post to Linwood Customer Service Desk, PO Box 73025, Christchurch 8154.
Penalties apply if dog registrations are not paid by 31 July.
All dogs must be registered prior to reaching the age of three months and all newly-registered dogs are legally required to be micro-chipped.
The Council's Animal Management Unit believes there are about 36,500 dogs in the city. Last year about 94 per cent were registered.
