Marine Heavy and Precious Metals Project
> Trans-Tasman Resources (TTR) Marine Heavy and Precious
Metals Project
> Westland Sands Prospecting Permit
Application, Offshore South Island
>
> TTR has applied to New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals for a 4,436km2 Prospecting Permit offshore along the West Coast of the South Island.
> The Permit, extending from Ross in the
south to north of Karamea, is located from 1 kilometre
offshore out to the 12 nautical mile territorial limit (see
attached plan). The application covers an area where
previous exploration has identified a number of seafloor
deposits of heavy mineral sands and precious metals. TTR's
exploration activities will focus on developing offshore
mineable resources of iron rich mineral sands known to host
ilmenite, zircon, garnet and gold.
>
> These Westland
Sands seafloor heavy and precious mineral deposits, in
around 20 to 80 metres of water, will be amenable to
conventional seafloor mining technology currently being
developed by TTR for its offshore South Taranaki Bight iron
sands project along the west coast of the North Island
NZ.
>
> TTR will utilise its current proprietary
seafloor drilling technology, exploration, geological,
engineering and permitting expertise, developed on its South
Taranaki Bight iron sands project, to assess the potential
of the Westland Sands targets and resources.
>
> TTR
will work and liaise closely with the relevant authorities
and all stakeholders, including the West Coast Regional
Council, to ensure that its activities comply with the
requirements of the Resource Management Act 1991. Any future
proposals by TTR to exploit any defined mineral resources
will employ world's best practice, deliver substantial
economic benefits and be environmentally
sustainable.
