Auckland Airport welcomes International Convention Centre design agreement
Auckland Airport has welcomed the announcement that the Government and SKYCITY have agreed on the preliminary design of the New Zealand International Convention Centre.
Charles Spillane, Auckland Airport’s general manager corporate affairs, says, “This is great news for the New Zealand tourism industry and we congratulate both parties for reaching agreement.”
“New Zealand urgently needs world-class convention facilities, if we are going to compete with centres in Australia and Asia. The New Zealand International Convention Centre will provide them.”
“The agreement is also further progress to achieving the tourism sector’s target of 6% annual growth and increasing tourism revenue to $41 billion by 2025, both of which are outlined in the sector’s Tourism 2025 strategy.”
“Auckland Airport looks forward to welcoming the 33,000 new delegates that the Centre will attract every year. We will ensure they have a uniquely Kiwi experience when they travel through the airport,” says Mr Spillane.
