Robotics, engineering and life on Mars: Hutt STEMM Festival set to be a cracker
The programme of events
for Lower Hutt’s first STEMM Festival has been set and
events can now be registered for.
There are more than 30 events from Tuesday 2 June – Sunday 7 June and many are free or koha. However, several require registration because spaces are limited.
The Women in Engineering breakfast on Wednesday 3 June has already proved incredibly popular with more than 70 people registered.
Kids can find lots to do from hands-on science starters at Hutt City Libraries, to pop up science at Saturday’s Riverbank Market and an open afternoon at The Mind Lab who do 3D printing, robotics, coding, filmmaking and more.
On Tuesday 2 June Hutt News will run home-based science experiments that use ingredients easily found around the home.
The programme has been developed as a partnership between Hutt City Council and organisations Callaghan Innovation, GNS, WelTec, The MindLab, Seaview Business Community, Victoria University of Wellington, Open Polytechnic, IPENZ, CONNECT, Lightning Lab and Pop Up Science.
All the organisations have developed their own events, which are part of the programme, from open days of their facilities to teacher and principal’s professional development sessions as well as robotics and hacking sessions.
Programmes are free and can be picked up from Hutt City Council at 531 High Street, Lower Hutt; at Hutt City Libraries; at the i-SITE on Laings Road or found online at http://huttstemm.nz under ‘calendar of events.’
