Press release: Service clubs
A proposal to merge the city’s services clubs and build a combined facility in Hastings city centre has been declined by the members.
The National Service Club and the Hastings City Combined Club (RSA, Heretaunga Club and the Hibernian Club) held special meetings on Sunday to consider the merger and council’s proposal to grant $1m toward the project and buy a plot of land that would have become surplus to requirements if the deal went ahead.
A significant majority of the National Service Club members voted against the proposal which meant it would be given no further consideration by council.
