Wellington Free Ambulance activate back-up plans during Kapiti floods
Wellington Free Ambulance is activating a back-up plan to access residents in the Kapiti area which has been badly affected by flooding.
Head of operations Rob Ives says the flooding is affecting access in and out of Kapiti, but the service is working with St John to ensure they can administer care and treatment to those who need it.
“We currently have one ambulance, and one urgent community care vehicle with paramedics who can treat people at home operating from Paraparaumu,” Mr Ives says.
“We are bringing extra ambulances into the region, should we need to transport someone to Palmerston North hospital.”
Mr Ives says that anyone needing urgent medical care should call 111, but if it’s not an emergency, please call Healthline.
“Our resources are slim at present, but we have good plans in place to deal with an emergency.”
