Drainage and irrigation upgrade in Square about to begin

Drainage and irrigation upgrade in Square about to begin

Palmerston North City Council is about to begin work on upgrading drainage and irrigation on the events lawn in The Square.

This week security fencing will be installed before machinery is bought onto site next week to undertake trenching and laying of drainage pipes and upgrading of the irrigation system.

“The upgrade is necessary as a result of poor drainage after heavy or lengthy rain events, restricting the number or type of events that can be held on the lawn,” Jeff Baker, leisure assets planner said. “The completed project will significantly improve the performance of the area so that more public events and casual usage can be held all year round.”

The work will be carried out through winter and the entire events lawn will be re-turfed.

Jeff says this is a quiet time of the year for events on the lawn, so the best time to do the work.

The work will be carried out by Mexted Performance Sports Surfaces, Total Irrigation Central and Turflands.
