How can I help businesses near road works?
You can make a special effort to support them and walk just a little further or take a different way to get to them.
• Bassett St, Burwood is a good case currently. Please use Travis Road or Parnwell St while the New Brighton Road end is blocked while the pump station is being built.
Good news
Antigua Boat Sheds footbridge is now reopened. If you are heading into Hagley Park, the Canterbury Museum, Botanic Gardens or the Arts Centre, check out the smooth cycling and walking surface at the new bridge.

New work with detours Hills Road Richmond/ Shirley
Hills Road city-bound drivers will be detoured along Edgeware Road past Miss Feaver Florist for the 4 May week. A week later, the detour will begin at Guild St, go south along Slater and onto Dudley St through to early June. Hills Road will be northbound only across the Edgeware Road intersection from Dudley to Guild. This traffic management plan has been tweaked from the earlier plan to minimise the effects upon the shops at this intersection.
This is the first stage of repairs to the large northern relief wastewater trunk (ie a major pipe), which runs along Edgeware Road and Hills Road at Edgeware Road. (NB: previous work along Edgeware Road in 2012 were emergency repairs, also extensive in nature.)

Carlton Mill footbridge starts - affects pedestrians
The complete rebuild of this cracked footbridge in Little Hagley Park starts 4 May and should be finished for summer. A temporary service road will be put in place in Little Hagley Park so machinery can remove the bridge’s abutments. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/6788
New way to Rolleston Ave city car park via Riccarton Ave
If you are driving to the Botanic Gardens or Hagley Park, there will be a new way into the car park, normally accessed over the Armagh St bridge, from 4 May. While the bridge is being repaired, Riccarton Ave is the new way to an existing back road, normally used by Hagley Park staff. The road has been upgraded to ensure the car park can be used throughout the six-month bridge repair. Drivers need to give way to cyclists and pedestrians in Hagley Park.
• Cyclists and walkers will have access across the bridge throughout the repair.
• Pedestrians and cyclists have priority in Hagley Park.
Ongoing SCIRT work central city
SCIRT’s McConnell Dowell team has a number of work sites in the central city
High St: One way southbound for a week from Monday, 4 May between Lichfield (Stranges Corner) and Tuam (C1/ Alices). This work had been planned to start earlier. http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/work/activity/6781
Manchester
St: The section the crew is working in, between Lichfield
and Cashel, will remain one way southbound for the week of 4
May. The pipes are encased in concrete so removing the
concrete has added to the original time frame.
Madras

with lanes reduced. There is no access into or out of Armagh
St from Madras. Entry is maintained into Chester Street East
from Madras, but exit not available that way.
Aranui changes
Aranui is the busiest part of Christchurch in terms of SCIRT work sites currently. More resilient vacuum wastewater chambers are going into street berms and the six “arms” of the vacuum system are being installed on streets, then along Pages Road to the new vacuum pump station.
Please see the big map on the new Aranui page of the SCIRT web for street closures and one-ways. This map is regularly being updated.http://strongerchristchurch.govt.nz/aranui-area-update
The next update will be late on Friday 1 May or first thing Monday 4 May.
