Candle-lit vigil in support of Nepalese community
The community is invited to show its support for the local Nepalese community, their families and countrymen in Nepal, at a candle-lit vigil on Friday 1 May from 6.30pm at Victoria Square.
The local Nepalese community will host the vigil, with support from the Student Volunteer Army and Christchurch City Council.
Speakers include Professor Rajesh Dhakal, president of the New Zealand Nepalese Friendship Society, renowned Everest climber Mark Inglis and Mayor Lianne Dalziel.
Candles will be available for lighting at the vigil.
The Student Volunteer Army will be collecting donations, which will go towards recovery work in Nepal.
