Extra Healthy Rivers/Wai Ora drop in session for north Waikato
An extra public drop in session is to be held in Tuakau on Tuesday 5 May so that people in north Waikato have another
chance to learn about a project aimed at protecting the Waikato and Waipa rivers.
The session will look at water quality issues and their causes and how the Healthy Rivers: Plan for Change/Wai Ora: He
Rautaki Whakapaipai plan change process is looking at how to protect the waterways.
A Collaborative Stakeholder Group (CSG), made up of regional representatives, will eventually recommend a plan change
designed to manage contaminants getting into water bodies to Waikato Regional Council.
Specific topics to be covered at the drop in session include:
• current water quality and trends in different parts of the Waikato and Waipa catchments
• insights into factors driving water quality
• how the project’s modelling and research programme will help develop options
• the project milestones and timelines.
People will be able to give their views on how the CSG plans to divide the Waikato and Waipa catchments into areas to
better manage water quality, and how it will determine how healthy or unhealthy a water body is.
