Economic Development Leads Submissions Received on Ruapehu Ltp Consultation
The public consultation on Ruapehu District Council’s ten year Long Term Plan 2015-2025 (LTP) closed having received 137 submissions covering 64 main topics.
RDC Chief Executive, Peter Till, said that although the total number of submissions received was less than the previous two Long Term Plans the quality of the submissions was of a very high standard.
“The last LTP three years ago (2012-2022) received a lot of submissions on a couple of big issues at the time being around 100 submissions alone on the proposed Visitor Accommodation Policy with a large number also being received on the then proposal to scrap Land Value for rating purposes in favour of Capital value.”
“The largest number of submissions received for this year’s LTP was on economic development.”
“Council was very pleased with this as feedback on our economic development strategy ‘Growing Ruapehu’ was a specific outcome we were wanting,” he said.
Mr Till added that ideas on township renewal also made up a large number of the submissions received.
“Other major topics included; ideas on what to do with the Memorial Hall and old library building on Hakiaha St in Taumarunui, Maori representation, Development Contributions and the proposed Forestry Rating Differential for local roads.”
“In addition to these issues there was a raft of other submissions covering a wide variety of topics including; bilingual signs, road sealing, waste minimisation and genetic engineering.”
Mr Till said that 50 people had chosen to support their submission with a presentation to Council.
“The Hearings on the LTP submissions will start this week on Wednesday 29 April in Ohakune, 30 April and 1 May in Taumarunui with an additional day (5 May) if required.”
RDC Mayor, Don Cameron, said that it was fantastic to see so many people thinking about the issues confronting the district and choosing to take part in the LTP consultation process.
“Public submissions are a vitally important part of Council’s LTP decision making process and I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time and effort to let us know how they feel about different Ruapehu issues,” he said.
“Adoption of the LTP will be before 30 June 2015.”
