Submitters to share transport views

Submitters to share transport views

Submitters will share their views on the Region’s plan for public transport at a meeting of the Regional Passenger Transport Committee in Palmerston North at 9am Tuesday 21 April.

Hearings for submissions to the Regional Public Transport Plan were initially scheduled to run across Monday 20 and Tuesday 21. However, due to the small number of people wishing to speak, all submitters will now be heard on the Tuesday.

Horizons Transport Manager Phil Hindrup says Horizons received 46 submissions to the Plan which covers all aspects of the Region’s public transport network including bus services, health shuttles and the Total Mobility scheme providing discounted taxi services for people who are unable to use other forms of public transport.

“We had a huge amount of feedback through the Palmerston North bus service review and recently asked people to submit on the Regional Land Transport Plan so the smaller number of submissions for this Plan is unsurprising. However, we’re really looking forward to hearing what people have to say to the Committee as there are some really well thought out submissions in the mix,” he says.

Once the Regional Passenger Transport Committee has considered all submissions it will recommend a final Plan for adoption by the Regional Council. This Plan will then be made publically available via Horizons’ website and in hard copy upon request.

The summary of submissions document will be available late next week with information about themes and comments made in submissions to the Plan. The hearing will be held at Horizons Regional Council’s Palmerston North office in Victoria Avenue, starting at 9am.
