City Rail Link Design Showcase
City Rail Link Design Showcase
Aucklanders will be
able to take a peek into the future at a design showcase
this weekend for the City Rail Link’s new stations and
public spaces.
New stations in midtown and
Karangahape Road and a redeveloped one at Mt Eden have been
designed in partnership with Mana Whenua to provide a unique
look and feel.
The design showcase will be in QEII Square, 10am to 4pm daily from Sat 11 to Wed 15 April.
“We think people will be excited when they see what
the project will do for the city,” says Chris Meale, City
Rail Link Project Director.
“Visitors to the design showcase will also find out how the first stage of construction will roll out later this year.”
Auckland’s population is expected to grow by 700,000 in the next 30 years and the CRL will be vital to meet the city’s growing transport needs.
The CRL will reduce the time and increase the frequency of most services, allowing 30,000 people an hour in peak on the rail network, with more connections between rail, ferry and bus services.
“Auckland’s city centre is the heart of the city’s economy and Auckland accounts for 34% of jobs in New Zealand and 37% of the country’s GDP. Improved access to the city centre is the key to Auckland’s economic growth”, says Mr Meale.
