Locals pick Christchurch's Pockets of Awesome
Enthusiastic Christchurch locals are helping Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism (CCT) launch a new phase in its
successful Pockets of Awesome domestic campaign.
CCT has been asking locals to share their favourite Pockets of Awesome on social media with images or videos.
CCT General Manager Marketing Rowan Worner says they have received hundreds of entries ranging from biking in the Port
Hills, to favourite places for an afternoon drink and swimming spots around the city.
"Now we have pulled all these images on to one platform showing a colourful display of what's going on," she says. They
can be found atwww.pocketsofawesome.co.nz.
The campaign, running until April 19 in Auckland and Wellington, is supported by Christchurch Airport and features the
Christchurch images on bus shelters and digital media. A competition gives winners and two friends Jetstar flights and
two nights at Rydges Hotel Latimer Christchurch, so they can discover the Pockets of Awesome for themselves.
The Pockets of Awesome video series, which led to this campaign, was created in response to CCT research in Auckland and Wellington that showed a high
percentage of people would not consider Christchurch as a holiday destination.
We needed to find a way to counter perceptions there was little vibe and not much to do in Christchurchs central
city, Ms Worner says.
Featuring popular Cantabrians Jack Tame, Andy Ellis and boy band Moorhouse, the videos proved a hit with over 100,000
views.
Locals and visitors can still get involved by uploading their favourite pictures of Christchurch to Instagram or
Facebook using the hashtag #pocketsofawesome.
