Hawkes Bay iconic hotel closed for major refurbishment

A massive refurbishment is underway at one of Hawkes Bays’ iconic historic hotels.

Mangapapa Petit Hotel is undergoing major renovations as part of earthquake strengthening which will see the original 1885 building undergo foundation work and a new hotel reception area added to the main homestead with additional alterations to the popular Mangapapa restaurant.

The main kitchen will be reconfigured to meet the new requirements by the new executive chef, Paul Condron with the growing demand for weddings and corporate functions. The first floor of the homestead will see all the bedrooms upgraded and updated with new décor, wallpaper, paint, new carpets, keeping with the classical style of the building and with local art works to be also added.

The 4 cottages added in 1994 are also being restyled inside and out, and will be turned into two bedroom executive suites with internal access, fireplaces and a small study area in both, bring them up to a level to rival any other Hawkes Bay accommodation offerings.

On top of all of this, a new high end conference facility will be built (ideal for executive retreats or small boutique weddings) with the existing facility being converted into two new junior suites.

Mangapapa Petit Hotel Director Chase Arquette says the transformation will see this lovely old homestead turned back to its former glory as it is really important to the owners to save this iconic Hawkes Bay building, as it’s not only a treasure to the local community but also an important part of New Zealand’s history and we need to future proof it for future generations to enjoy.
