Forestry-related death notified to WorkSafe NZ

Forestry-related death notified to WorkSafe NZ

WorkSafe NZ has been notified this morning of a forestry-related death at Te Wera in Taranaki.

Inspectors are on their way to the remote forestry site where it appears that a worker has been struck by a log falling off a truck. No further details are available.

This is the first forestry death reported since January 2014 and WorkSafe Chief Executive Gordon MacDonald says the death is a tragedy for the worker’s family, his workmates and the tightknit forestry community.

“The worker’s death reconfirms the need for everyone in forestry to make safety their number one priority and to be vigilant around every element of forest operations,” Mr MacDonald says.
