Fire restrictions to be lifted at midnight
An Open Fire Season will be in force in the Whangarei and Kaipara from midnight tonight (Monday 23 March 2015), until further notice.
The “Open” status applies to all of the Whangarei District Council area except Limestone and Rabbit Islands where a permanent Prohibited Season is in place.
This “Open” season does not apply to any State areas administered by the Department of Conservation.
Anyone lighting a fire in the open is reminded that they may still be held liable for the consequences arising from the fire and care must be taken to avoid fire spread.
This declaration is given pursuant to Section 22(2) of the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 and the Fire Prevention Bylaw 2005.
