Redefine competition gets the creative juices flowing
Presbyterian Support East Coast (PSEC) is excited to announce the launch of Redefine – love your op shop, a fun new competition taking place in the Hawke’s Bay area on 5 September 2015 at East Pier, Napier.
Op shops provide a treasure trove of pre-loved items just waiting to be readopted and given a new lease on life. Redefine aims to highlight the immense value op shops offer to the community by getting entrants to repurpose an op shop item and create something fresh, new and funky!
“We have been so pleased with the community’s response to this event,” says Presbyterian Support East Coast’s Fundraising, Communications and Marketing Manager, Shirley Collins. “Everybody likes the concept and creativity behind the competition, and all in aid of local good causes.”
To enter, shoppers need to purchase an item from one of Presbyterian Support East Coast or Cranford Hospice’s charity op shops and Redefine it according to one of six innovative categories. There are cash prizes for the winner of each category, as well as the overall Redefine winner and a People’s Choice Award for the entry which receives the most votes from the public. Entrants can choose to donate their refurbished item to the silent auction or take it away with them after the event.
“Several of our op shop clients surprise us all the time with what they do with the items they buy from our stores… So we are very excited to be able to showcase all their wonderful creations in the context of Redefine,” Shirley adds.
The categories are:
1. Miniatures – Create a design to fit into a miniature world
2. Surprise Us – Completely change an item from its original purpose
3. Picture This – Revamp your picture and/or frame
4. Shabby Chic It – Refurbish an interior item
5. Rework It – Transform a piece of clothing
6. Hat Trick – Create an astonishing hat! This one is just a for the kids (two age categories, under 9 and 10-14 years)
