Big vessel Queen Mary 2 visits Wellington

The coolest little cruise capital welcomes the Queen Mary 2 today.

She measures 345 metres in length (equivalent to three and a half football fields), and carries 3108 passengers and over a thousand crew.

CentrePort is one of a few ports in New Zealand able to handle vessels of her size.

Wellington has hosted 69 cruise ships so far this season, with a further 10 scheduled. The last ship for the season calls on Thursday 23 April.

Total passenger numbers for the season are expected to be 150,000, bringing in an estimated $30m+ to the local economy.
