Nominations in Councillor By-election to close

Nominations for prospective candidates in the City Councillor by-election will close at 12 noon on Friday 20 March 2015.

Electoral Officer Dr John Annabell, says that to date he has received eight nominations.

“As the number of nominations has exceeded the vacancy an election will take place,” Dr Annabell confirmed. “However, once nominations close profiles of candidates will be posted on pncc.govt.nz and ‘Meet the Councillor Candidates’ meetings will give residents a chance to talk to candidates prior to the by-election.”

Dr Annabell said it is important that residents make sure they are included on the residential electoral roll so they can vote on the candidate they would like to represent them in Council.

“Electors not included on the roll at the time or with incorrect addresses will not receive voting papers.”

Election Day will be held on Saturday 9 May 2015.

The extraordinary vacancy has arisen due to the successful election of Grant Smith to Mayor.
