The 2015 Dunedin Fringe Festival is
officially underway. From today until Sunday 22nd March,
artists and performers will take to Dunedin theatres,
streets, galleries and public spaces to inspire, challenge
and entertain audiences.
Last night, over 700 people attended the Polson Higgs Opening Night Showcase at the Regent Theatre. Seventeen different artists from the Festival lineup performed snippets from their shows. The audience was treated to an energetic and fast-paced night celebrating the start of the 12th Dunedin Fringe Festival.
“The response to our opening night was overwhelmingly positive”, said Festival Director Josh Thomas. “And now the fun begins as artists present their 50 shows around the city.”
The Festival itself runs a number of special events. The Festival Club starts tonight at Dog with Two Tails Café and Bar, 25 Moray Place. Curated late night performances will be held on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights during the Festival and drink specials will also be available.
The Pecha Kucha Night on Tuesday 17th March features twelve creative and inspirational speakers who present 20 images in rapid succession. Presenters include acclaimed New Zealand filmmaker Florian Habicht, local writers Lisa Scott and Henry Feltham and Otgao Girls High School student Sabrina Swerdcloff.
The public can receive daily email updates with information on the time, location and price of all events by signing up at www.dunedinfringe.nz.
