Getting to Auckland’s weekend of big events

We’ve got a huge weekend ahead in Auckland with a number of major events on. If you’re heading to events like the cricket, The Eagles, Pasifika, the Volvo Ocean Race Village or St Patrick’s Day Parade you will need to plan ahead because public transport and the roads will be busy.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

The cricket is back in Auckland on Saturday and public transport is the easiest way to get to Eden Park to see India take on Zimbabwe at 2pm. Travel on trains and special event buses is included with your match ticket from midday. Bus

Travel on special event buses is included with your match ticket. Services operate to Eden Park from Auckland City Centre, Northern Busway stations, Takapuna, Manukau, Pakuranga, Botany, Newmarket and Mt Eden.

Train

Travel on trains from midday until the end of services after the match is included with your ticket. Extra trains will be provided on conclusion of the game until crowds clear, and remember to keep your match ticket for the ride home.

Western Line:

Additional trains will operate from the west with event trains terminating at Morningside Station, a short walk from Eden Park. A mobility shuttle will operate before and after the match for patrons between Morningside Station and Eden Park. After the match, Morningside is the station for passengers travelling west.

Southern/Eastern Line:

Extra trains will operate on the Southern and Eastern Lines to Britomart where you can transfer onto Western Line services to Kingsland Station. After the match, Kingsland will be the station to use for fans heading back to Britomart where you can transfer onto Eastern and Southern Line trains.

Ferry

The Downtown Ferry Terminal is next to the Britomart Transport Centre; ferry passengers can easily change to a bus or train to get to Eden Park. Normal fares apply on the ferries.

Cycling and Walking

There is some bike parking at Eden Park and the ground is a comfortable 50 minute walk from Auckland’s city centre.

Road closures

During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 there will be road closures and parking restrictions in the vicinity of Eden Park. Full details here:https://at.govt.nz/about-us/news-events/eden-park-event-road-closures/ There will be some mobility parking available on Cricket Ave.

The Eagles

Travel on trains and special event buses to The Eagles at Mt Smart Stadium is included with your concert ticket from 3 hours prior to the event. The band is playing two sold-out nights on Saturday and Sunday. Gates open at 5pm on Saturday and at 4.30 on Sunday. Again remember to keep your ticket for the trip home.

Bus

Included with your concert ticket is travel on special event buses direct to Mt Smart Stadium from the Northern Busway stations and Auckland City Centre (on Quay St near Queen Street) and return.

Train

Additional trains will operate before and after the concert. All rail services will go into Penrose train station for this event, the station is a 10 to 15 minute walk from Mt Smart Stadium.

Pasifika Festival 2015

You can catch public transport to experience the sights, sounds, tastes and colours of the Pacific at Pasifika on Saturday andSunday. The event has been moved to Hayman Park in Manukau which is next to the Manukau Station.

Bus

A number of services travel to Manukau city centre and then it’s a walk of about 15 minutes to Hayman Park. Normal fares/passes apply for bus travel.

Train

Hayman Park is next to the Manukau train station on the Eastern Line. Normal fares/passes apply. A shuttle bus service will be available from Puhinui Station.
