Fire contained at Silverstream Landfill
A fire at Silverstream Landfill discovered in the early hours of this morning, Monday 2 March has been contained.
Fire services are on site; at no stage was there any threat to neighbouring property. The fire is in the active part of the landfill (where people dispose of their rubbish). The cause of the fire is being investigated.
The landfill will be closed until further notice.
This is the first fire in over 15 years at Silverstream Landfill.
Silverstream Landfill is located on Reynolds Bach Drive and is owned by Hutt City Council, but jointly operated on behalf of Hutt City and Upper Hutt City Councils.
