Wellington Free Ambulance comes home for a long lunch
Wellington Free Ambulance is coming home for a long fundraising lunch at its former headquarters, the St John’s Bar and Restaurant in Cable Street.
St John’s Bar, which now occupies the 1930s building that was purpose-built as the former Wellington Free Ambulance headquarters, is holding the charity event on February 27.
All proceeds go to Wellington Free Ambulance.
Wellington Free Ambulance chief executive Diana Crossan says it is extremely fitting that Wellington Free is the first charity St John’s Bar will support with this fund raising initiative.
“We are the ones who help one in ten people in the Greater Wellington and Wairarapa regions, and attend 140 incidents every day,” says Ms Crossan, who is also attending the lunch.
“We are incredibly grateful that St Johns Bar want to support us and their community in this way.
“Wellington Free served the city from Cable Street HQ between 1933 and 1994 – we’re really looking forward to celebrating that history.”
St John’s Bar general manager Rob Hill says Wellington Free Ambulance is the charity of choice as they are a particularly worthy cause, with a unique link to St John’s bar.
“Wellington Free Ambulance do amazing work for the community,” he says.
“They’re also close to home for us – they’re a great connection with the building and the business. There’s a lot of history involved.”
Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic and owner of a vintage ambulance ) that was in service between 1975 and 1992 will be at the event with the ambulance on display between 12.00pm and 1.30pm.
Guests will enjoy four courses outdoors from 12 p.m. with live music, an auction and a raffle to be held.
