Join the Petone beach clean-up on 8 March
Hutt City Council invites Hutt residents to take part in the annual beach clean-up at Petone Beach on Sunday 8 March, in celebration of Seaweek 2015.
The theme for Seaweek 2015 is Look beneath the surface – Papatai ō roto – Papatai ō raro, which highlights how precious the sea is and how much we can learn from studying it.
Seaweek inspires Kiwis to celebrate our oceans, tackle issues such as marine pollution, and learn about the positive impacts of initiatives such as sustainable fishing and looking after marine reserves.
Participants are encouraged to bring sturdy, enclosed footwear and garden gloves. Hutt City Council will provide rubbish bags and gloves for participants who need them.
There will also be a sandcastle competition, with double passes to Lighthouse Cinema Petone up for grabs.
The beach clean-up starts at 12pm, and sandcastles will be judged at 2.30pm.
Children under 16 must be supervised by an adult.
Beach clean-up participants will receive discounts off coffee at The Flying Bean coffee cart, and free fluffies for young children.
