Martin Crowe to attend the Legends of Cricket Art Deco Match

We all know he’s a legend so it’s fitting Martin Crowe will be part of the action at the Legends of Cricket match in Hawke’s Bay next week.

The latest big name to confirm he’ll be in Hawke’s Bay for the unique match next Wednesday (25 February), Crowe said he’s even looking forward to reuniting with an old foe. “I remember facing Jeff Thomson in my debut against Australia so it will be good to see him again,” Crowe said. “It’s going to be a great day catching up with so many old mates in Hawke’s Bay”

As one of New Zealand’s most loved and renowned cricketers, the confirmation Crowe will be at the Clifton County Cricket Ground in Te Awanga was “simply fantastic”, said Hawke’s Bay Tourism General Manager Annie Dundas. “To have him join us will be just wonderful. He’s a hero to so many and one of our national cricketing treasures.”

Other big names who will be at the match are Jeff Thomson, Adam Hollioake, Chris Harris, Evan Gray, Erv McSweeney, Shane Thomson, Dion Nash, Mark Ellis and actor Shane Cortese (who has played for Northern Districts and Lords Tavener). Ian Smith will also take part in the day but in a non-player capacity.

Unfortunately changes to Sir Ian Botham’s commentary schedule mean he can no longer be part of the day.

“We’re disappointed that Sir Ian can’t make it to the Legends game but we know that schedules change and we look forward to welcoming him to Napier when he commentates the Pakistan vs UAE match on March 4th” Ms Dundas said.

The long-term weather forecast for the game was good and fans are reminded to get in early to book their tickets as they are selling fast.

The Legends of Cricket match will be a friendly 20/20 game, based on an Art Deco theme which will include players donning traditional 1930’s cricket attire with a host of sideline activity celebrating the era synonymous with Napier City and Hawke’s Bay heritage.

Food and beverages will be on sale at the match, and while the match is not BYO, spectators are welcome to bring their own picnics into the grounds.

Tickets for the Art Deco Cricket Match are on sale now. Book tickets at www.artdecocricketmatch.co.nz
