Council decisions released today

Two items discussed in private by the Christchurch City Council at yesterday’s Council meeting have been publicly released today.

Mayor Lianne Dalziel and Councillors approved a performance plan for Chief Executive Karleen Edwards. Elected members also discussed the development of a living wage remuneration policy.

The performance plan outlines the Council’s expectations of Dr Edwards to lead a modern organisation which delivers improved public services, visible leadership and resourceful and innovative work practices. It outlines several key result areas including activity management, decision making, and advice and reporting.

Mayor Lianne Dalziel says releasing information was part of the Council’s pledge for full transparency.

“Karleen Edwards has been asked to deliver a “can do” organisation. We’ve said from the very start that important decisions to do with the organisation or Chief Executive will be released publicly. Christchurch residents have a right to know about how their Council is operating and we’re committed to making that happen.”

The Council also asked Chief Executive Karleen Edwards to develop a draft remuneration policy for consideration by the committee which provides for a living wage while ensuring there is no impact on the overall salaries and wages budget.

“The committee was clear that we want to see a draft policy that is more equitable across the organisation.”
