Level 1 water restrictions to start

Level 1 water restrictions to start

Palmerston North City Council would like to notify residents that Level 1 water restrictions will take effect from tomorrow, Wednesday 28 January 2015.

Restrictions will apply to Palmerston North City and Linton supplies.

“We need to conserve our water by avoiding unnecessary outdoor water uses and any wastage,” Dora Luo, water asset engineer said. “The City water evening peak demand has reached historical highs. The water level in the Turitea Dam has been dropping faster than ever due to a constant high demand over the last couple of weeks.”

Garden sprinklers and unattended water devices may only be used during the hours of 7:00pm to 9:00pm on alternate days as follows:
• Houses with even street numbers on even dates.
• Houses with odd street numbers on odd dates.
• Attended hand held hoses may be used at any time during your allocated day.

“It is hoped introducing Level 1 restrictions at this stage may reduce the need for more severe restrictions later in the season,” Dora said.
