Traffic update - week starting 26 January 2015

Schools start back next week so please keep this in mind and plan ahead for a little more congestion.
Note: Ferry Rd, Wilsons Rd and Moorhouse Ave intersection is closed from today (Friday 23 January) until 6am Monday 26 January. Find out more here.


Suburbs
New work
Sumner – Scarborough Rd/Whitewash Head Rd/Herberden Rd

Wastewater repair work will begin at the Whitewash Head Rd/Scarborough Rd/Heberden Rd corner from Monday 26 January. During the first stage of the work, Whitewash Head Rd will be closed to vehicles between 9.00am and 3.00pm for three days. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

During the second stage of the work, Heberden Ave and Scarborough Rd near Whitewash Head Rd corner, will be reduced to one lane. Temporary traffic lights will be installed to allow two-way traffic past the worksite. The work is expected to take around four weeks.

Pages Rd – bypass pipe and ramp removal
Pages Rd will be closed between Farnborough St and Rowan Ave from Saturday 24 January for around four days. Two temporary pipes and a ramp will be removed. Traffic using the city bound one-way system on Pages Rd will be detoured via Farnborough St, Winchfield St, Carisbrooke St and Rowan Ave.

Portsmouth St – temporary closures
From Monday 26 January, wastewater repair work will be carried out on Portsmouth St. During the first stage of the work Portsmouth St will be closed between Wainoni Rd and Basingstoke St, during stage two it will be closed between Basingstoke St and Ben Rarere Ave, and during the final stage of work it will be closed between Ben Rarere Ave and Hampshire St. Turning restrictions will also be in place. Watch for changing traffic conditions. Work is expected to be completed around the end of March.

Griffiths Ave – one way
A one-way system, northbound, will be in place on Griffiths Ave between Rudds Road and Nicholas Ave for around four weeks. An earthquake damaged water main is being repaired.

Upcoming work
Next weekend – Bridge St bridge closure
Next weekend, between 6.30pm Friday 30 January and 6.00am Monday 2 February, Bridge Street bridge in South New Brighton will be closed. The bridge deck will be jacked back down onto the rebuilt abutments. Traffic will be detoured via Estuary Rd, Hardy St, Pages Rd and Anzac Drive.

Ongoing woDyers Rd – expect delays
Road repair work is being carried out on Dyers Road between Linwood Ave and Palinurus Rd. The road is open to two-way traffic and a 30km/h speed limit is in place. Drivers should expect delays. The work is expected to be completed in mid-February.

Maces Rd – one-way northbound
Maces Rd is one-way northbound only, between Wickham St and Taurus Pl, while wastewater repairs are being carried out. Detours are in place. Work is expected to be completed around the end of February.

Fendalton Rd bridge repairs – watch for cyclists
Repairs are underway on Fendalton Rd bridge, at the intersection of Fendalton Rd, Harper Ave and Deans Ave. Cyclists are being merged with traffic – both motorists and cyclists should take care in the area. A footpath closure is also in place and pedestrians should follow the signage onsite. Work is expected to be completed in mid-March 2015.
