Call to Watch Out for Fire
Risk
The council has warned rural and city residents to be on the alert for fire risks.
Yesterday fire fighters were called to a one-hectare scrub fire in the Turitea area, south of Palmerston North city, and this morning crews were called to a hay barn fire in Tangimoana.
“We have dealt with two serious fires in the last week and, with the weather forecast to remain fine, residents should be on the alert for fire risks,” says Rob Green, Water and Waste Services Manager.
“Fire fighters used some council water supplies last night to put out the fire in the Turitea area.
“While the quantity of water used was not huge, the city is carefully managing its water demand and extra stress is placed on the city’s supply if city water supplies are used to put out rural or city fires.”
