A bigger, brighter, and bolder Beachfest returns to the Tahunanui Sports Fields on Saturday 31 January from 4pm-10pm. The afternoon and evening of music is set to provide a finale to the Nelson’s summer celebrations, with a last chance for young revelers to party before the upcoming school year.

Presented by Nelson YMCA and their young Raise Up crew, Beachfest 2.0 builds upon the inaugural Beachfest held late last year with a collection of Nelson-Tasman’s bands, artists, DJs and entertainers returning to perform live.

Acoustic sets from Chase Tangohau, Jacob King, Laura Mae Parker and ELAE will be followed later in the evening by local youth bands Vanguard, Paper City and The Dions, with youth DJs Kayis, Helbronn Le and Forseti keeping up the beats through the sunset.

A series of interactive activities including The Truck mobile skate zone, hoola hoop station, foam zone and inflatable sumo wrestling and gladiator jousting will also be on offer, providing hours of amusement and entertainment to keep the summer cranking along.

Nelson YMCA’s Youth Services Manager Sally Wood is pleased with the quality and diversity of the artists and entertainers.

“Our events team is building on the success of the first Beachfest event and some amazing young performers have come forward wanting to play at the second event, the audience are in for a real treat,” she said.

For those that get into the Beachfest theme of “endless summer” and get dressed up some great prizes will be on offer, including tickets to the upcoming ZM Tour featuring The Broods Evergreen Tour the following weekend.

Thanks to funding from the Nelson City Council, the event is free for 15-18 years and is strictly alcohol and other drug free. Security and HYPE Street Ambassadors will be there to help young people to enjoy the Tahunanui beach area over summer at safe youth friendly events.

If the weather is wet on Saturday 31 ‘Beachfest 2.0’ will be moved to the following day, Sunday 1 March.
