Cricket Fanzone and Fantrail to all set to get the party started
The opening of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand is now only 27 days away and a dedicated Fanzone and Fantrail are set to add to the festival atmosphere.
Situated at Victoria Square from 13-23 February, the Fanzone will be a hub for cricket fans of all ages and will be the starting point for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand Fantrail that leads all the way to Hagley Oval.
The Fanzone will feature something for everyone with food and beverage stands, backyard cricket games, prize giveaways, family days, face-painting, cult-movies and live big-screen coverage of all the games from Hagley Oval.
The Fanzone opening night on 13 February features a 'Heroes and Heroines' themed night of musical entertainment with performances for home grown acts such as Bic Runga, Tiki Taane and DJ Reno. Following the Black Caps opening game on Saturday 14 February, Kiwi music legend Jordan Luck takes to the stage.
Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel says the Fanzone will be a must for all cricket fans during the ICC Cricket World Cup in Christchurch.
"The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand will be an amazing festival and the Fanzone and Fantrail will be a great way for everyone to celebrate the magic of the Cricket World Cup."
The Fantrail will open on the three match days and start from the Fanzone. Starting at Victoria Square the Fantrail takes you down Worcester Boulevard, past the Historic Arts Centre and Canterbury Museum and through the Botanic Gardens to the Hagley Oval.
To add to the festival atmosphere, all along the Fantrail there will be music, performances and entertainment to ensure you are charged up and ready to cheer on your team at Hagley Oval.
"Having this global event in Christchurch is an honour and a privilege for us and we fully intend to show all our visitors and residents a good time. Great matches, great company and great memories are what they'll get. Christchurch 2015: it's happening and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is just the start of it," says Mayor Dalziel.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand Fanzone and Fantrail details:
* The Fanzone is open 13-23 February 2015, between 9am-10.30pm (8am on match days).
* Entrance to the Fanzone is free of charge.
* The Fantrail is open on match days from 9am.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 New Zealand matches taking place at Hagley Oval:
* New Zealand v Sri Lanka - Saturday 14 February 2015.
* Pakistan v West Indies - Saturday 21 February 2015.
* England v Scotland - Monday 23 February 2015.
