Self defence course for Palmerston North women
The Women's Self Defence Network Wāhine Toa is collaborating with Women’s Refuge and Yellow Belle, a Women's Refuge pre-loved designer store in Palmerston North to organise a self defence course for Palmerston North women .
"Clearly at a time like this many women will be anxious about the threat of an attacker or intruder in their most prIvate space, their homes," says spokesperson for WSDN Alison Broad. “Having some ideas and strategies about what to do in the event of an attack helps dispel fears, allowing women to confidently get on with their lives.”
To help women feel stronger and more confident and learn some effective self defence strategies, this nationwide network of female self defence teachers will be holding a self defence course over two evenings in early February. The course is open to women of any age and to girls aged 16 and older.
Yellow Belle is a Women’s Refuge shop. The profits from the fashionable George street store directly support local refuges in their work. "We are about helping women who experience domestic violence to live a life free from violence and abuse. Any kind of violence towards women is something we do not tolerate and will work hard to prevent," says Yellow Belle spokesperson Stephanie Garvey.
Women and teenage girls over 16 who are interested in attending a self-defence course should register their interest by visiting Yellow belle at 58 George St. Palmerston North or emailing yellowbelle.pn@gmail.com or calling the store on 06 358 8997 for more information.
