Irony as NZ Lost Pet Service Founders Cat Goes Missing

Petsonthenet Founder Kim Buchanan is facing the irony of using her own lost pet service as her 2 year old tabby tortie cat, Snoopy, has been missing since Christmas Day.
Petsonthenet.co.nz is the nationwide database for lost and found pets. Kim and her team help reunite thousands of pets through the service each year. She is now in the ironic position of relying on the service she created 13 years ago in frustration at the lack of any nationwide database for lost and found pets – to help find her own lost pet.
“It’s scary to be an “undercover boss” in this way” says Kim who has been checking water filled drilled drains and collapsed mines with torches. Despite the innovations of Petsonthenet and microchipping, fliers still remain a huge part of any lost pet marketing she says and each day the flier circle increases by a few streets.
“With a wealth of knowledge on lost pet behaviour, I know that cats can easily get locked in at this time of year and I know that cats can take days, weeks or even months to be found. It’s a huge comfort to know she is listed on Petsonthenet and also microchipped and registered on the NZ Companion Animal Register. She loves car travel, so it is very likely she could have travelled to another town or city. That’s where I am relying on her microchip and Petsonthenet to help bring her home. It’s still an awful experience but knowing that many pets are found again, gives me a huge amount of optimism as I literally see it happening many times each day. Every single “success Story” we publish, brings renewed hope she will be home safely soon too.”
