Three men charged with rural burglaries in Selwyn and Waimakariri

Canterbury Police have charged three men in relation to three rural burglaries that took place on the 8/9 December 2014 in Lincoln, Rolleston and Kaiapoi.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson from Canterbury CIB says “A number of items are understood to have been taken from the properties including two flat screen TVs, electronic equipment and items of jewellery. If you have been offered any similar items at prices that may be too good to be true please contact Police on 03 363 7400 as your information may assist with this and other on-going inquiries.”

The three men have each been charged with three burglary related charges and are on Police bail to appear in Christchurch District Court. The 21 year old man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today. The 23 year old and 29 year old men will appear in Christchurch District Court on 29 December 2014.

Police investigations into these incidents are ongoing.

With the holiday season upon us and many people heading away to spend time with friends and family this is a timely reminder for everyone to keep their homes and outbuildings secure and not to leave out tools or ladders that opportunistic burglars can use to gain access to your property. If you are having a social gathering in your back garden make sure the doors and windows at the other side of your property are secure so that an opportunistic burglar cannot gain access.

Report any suspicious behaviour to Police straight away and note down, if you can, any useful information such as time, vehicle registrations, descriptions etc. If it’s appropriate take a photo on your phone.
