Take heed of alcohol bans when celebrating New Year
People looking to see in the New Year with a dash of their favourite tipple are reminded of a number of alcohol bans in the city.
“This year the Council introduced a new permanent alcohol ban in Sumner on New Year’s Eve, adding to other ban areas across the city at this time of celebration,” says Strategic Policy Unit Manager Alan Bywater.
“We encourage people to enjoy the occasion but want to make sure everyone is able to do so safely and in a responsible way. Bans are one way of moderating the negative impacts of alcohol and mean the areas covered are places the whole family can join in the celebration.”
The Sumner ban will be in place from 7pm Wednesday 31 December 2014 through to 7am Thursday 1 January 2015. It covers the same area as the existing permanent alcohol ban that applies from Thursday to Sunday (see map below).
