Numerous charges follow week of Nelson drug raids

Nelson Bays Police executed a number of search warrants last week, some following months of investigative work identifying people believed to be dealing drugs.

On Thursday a 62 year old Nelson man was arrested at a Richmond business address and charged with possession for supply of non-approved psychoactive substances and possession for supply of Class B drugs (Morphine).

Information received from the public that the man was supplying the drugs assisted in Police to make the arrest.

He has been remanded on bail to appear in the Nelson District Court on 5 January 2015.

Two other people Police believe had been distributing drugs for the man were charged with possession of non-approved psychoactive substances and a third person was charged with cultivating cannabis.

In a separate search warrant a 54 year old Tapawera man was charged with cultivation and possession of cannabis for supply.

When Police searched his property a sophisticated indoor and outdoor cannabis growing operation was found, along with significant numbers of cannabis plants and dried cannabis head.

Several people received warnings for possession of small quantities of cannabis during the operation and further charges are pending for others identified.

Detective Sergeant Chris Roberts of the Tasman District Organised Crime Unit said the operation showed the continuing commitment Police had to target those involved in drug dealing and reducing the social harm it brings to our communities.

He warned it would only be a matter off time before you come to Police attention if you choose to become involved in dealing drugs.
