Jellie Park’s 50th Birthday Bash postponed 24 hours
Due to the poor weather forecast for Saturday, Jellie Park’s 50th Birthday Bash is now all set for noon–3pm on Sunday 14 December.
John Filsell, Christchurch City Council’s Recreation and Sports Unit Manager, says Jellie Park has been a favourite for generations of Christchurch families.
“We’re welcoming grandparents, parents, children – and anyone else, for that matter – to the party on Sunday,” Mr Filsell says. “There are a lot of people with a lot of fond memories of this place, so there’s a lot of sentiment attached to this event. For the sake of creating some new, sunny memories, it makes sense to wait 24 hours for some decent weather.”
The pools were officially opened by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr David Seath, on December 5 1964, with nearly 2000 people in attendance.
“There are summer pool parties every year, but not many of them are milestones as significant as this,” Mr Filsell says.
Bring your togs and your party gear and celebrate 50 years of this great facility. Sponsors MORE FM and Streets will be on the spot with giveaways, competitions and prizes to keep the kids entertained. Details for all of the Council’s summer pool parties will be broadcast on MORE FM (92.1FM).
