Consents sought for new wastewater treatment plant
Consents sought for new wastewater treatment plant
Christchurch City Council has applied for
resource consents for an upgrade to Akaroa's wastewater
system.
The resource consent application is for a new wastewater treatment plant to be built at 80 Old Coach Road, near the intersection with SH73, a new 2.5 km long harbour outfall, a new terminal pump station in the car and boat park next to Childrens Bay, minor upgrades to three existing pump stations, and an upgrade to the main pipeline that runs through Akaroa township.
A public meeting will be held at Akaroa Sports Complex, Rue Lavaud, on Wednesday 10 December, 2014 at 5.30pm for people to get information about the project, ask questions, and find out how to make a submission.
Submissions on the resource consent application are open until 19 December.
The decision to move the current wastewater treatment plant, at Takapuneke Historic Reserve, was made in December 2011. This was due to the cultural significance of the site.
The chosen site on Old Coach Road was chosen because it was closer to areas that may be used for irrigating treated wastewater in the future, and has better road access and power supply than other sites that were considered. The new treatment plant would produce significantly better treated wastewater than the current treatment plant.
Details of the resource consent application can be found on the Council's website www.ccc.govt.nz/haveyoursay.
