Victoria Park Viaduct Upgrade: SH1 Closed January to March
Victoria Park Viaduct Upgrade Project - January to March 2015 - SH1 closed
The NZ Transport Agency will be upgrading the SH1 Victoria Park Viaduct with new LED lights and steel barriers this summer.
Overnight work will start on Monday 5 January 2015 and is expected to be finished by Wednesday 18 March 2015.
SH1 across Victoria Park will be closed between 10pm and 5am every night for the work, except Fridays and Saturdays.
The Cook Street off-ramp and Port/SH16 links will also be closed. Motorists can follow the signposted detour via Fanshawe Street and Hobson Street to rejoin SH16 or SH1 at the Hobson Street on-ramp.
Print, radio, social media and email marketing is planned for December and January to advertise these closures to motorists.
To minimise disruption and maximise efficiency, two crews will work under the same road closure. Work will start at the northern end of the viaduct and finish at the southern end and therefore noise is not expected to be concentrated in one area for an extended length of time.
A Construction Noise Management Plan (CNMP) has been prepared that sets out the noise limits, likely sources of noise and how we’ll work to minimise the effects. The noisiest activities are likely to be cutting the old steel posts that form the pipe rail barriers, concrete drilling and on-site vehicles and plant.
Measures we may use to minimise the effects include tonal reversing alarms, localised screening/muffling and portable acoustic screens that block the line-of-sight.
A copy of the CNMP with detailed information about noise management is available on the project website at www.nzta.govt.nz/vpv.
More information is available on the project website at www.nzta.govt.nz/vpv and anyone can sign-up for free email updates at www.nzta.govt.nz/vpv as well.
