School road patrollers receive their reward
Over
the next two weeks more than one thousand of Hutt City’s
school road patrollers will attend pool parties as a reward
for the effort they’ve put in throughout the year.
“These young people do a fantastic job, and deserve recognition for their important work keeping fellow pupils safe, rain or shine,” says Jan Simmons, Hutt City Council’s road safety coordinator.
“They attend training sessions with Police school community officers and then volunteer their time regularly throughout the year.
“The job can be a real challenge on our busier roads, in bad weather and with drivers who don’t always obey the road rules.”
Thirty-nine of Lower Hutt’s 47 primary and intermediate schools have road patrols, and there are around 1270 volunteers in total.
The celebration pool parties are an annual event, and are organised by Police and Hutt City Council.
