Vector Network News
We are just under 100
days to the Cricket World Cup 2015. The successful delivery
of a reliable, uninterrupted flow of electricity during the
Cricket World Cup has been a focus for Vector for the past
year.
Vector owns over 17,737 kilometres of overhead and
underground lines in the greater Auckland area, 12,572
kilometres of gas pipelines, with almost half supplying gas
to Auckland and a significant fibre network throughout the
city.
We have reviewed maintenance on our plant and
infrastructure and have ensured additional staff will be
rostered on to give extra cover where necessary, due to the
difficulty of moving staff around Auckland city when games
are on.
Our technical teams will be deployed in all key
areas and will ensure that we minimise restoration times in
the event of outages.
Network summary
for week ending 23 November
2014
Electricity
Perfect
kite-flying conditions during the week saw an enthusiast’s
kite meet with power lines on Waiheke. Our contractors
cleared the kite from the lines, with no power supply
affected. Please take care with kites around power lines and
if one does get stuck, do not attempt to free it
yourself.
There were seven car v electricity assets
during the week in Maraetai, Henderson Valley, Takapuna,
Mangere and Glenfield during the week along with two in
Avondale. In one of the Avondale incidents, power could not
be restored to the two affected customers until Chorus
replaced their asset the following morning.
An incredibly
busy week for fires in the Auckland area. Our control room
isolated power for safety to eight house/building fires in
Manurewa (3), Sunnyvale, Northcote, Mt Wellington,
Blockhouse Bay and Takapuna during the
week.
