Four Chinese Mayoral delegations to visit Christchurch

Four delegations from China, led by the Mayors of Christchurch’s Sister Cities or cities of interest, will visit Christchurch this weekend.

Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel will meet with each of the Mayoral delegations from Christchurch’s Sister Cities of Wuhan and Gansu province as well as delegations from Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

These visits will showcase the progress that Christchurch has made over the past three and a half years since the earthquakes and it is also an opportunity to share best practice examples of disaster recovery.

All the delegations scheduled to visit Christchurch are part of the state visit to New Zealand of His Excellency Mr Xi JinPing, President of China, which includes visits to Auckland and Wellington.

President Xi and a number of mayors from major cities in China are participating in today’s (Friday) New Zealand China Mayoral Forum (NZCMF) in Auckland. Mayor Dalziel has also accepted an invitation to participate in this Forum.

The Mayors visiting Christchurch this weekend are Mr Chen Jianhua, Mayor of Guangzhou; Mr Xu Qin, Mayor of Shenzhen, Mr. Tang Liangzhi, Mayor of Wuhan and Mr Yu Haiyan, Party Secretary, Lanzhou.

In addition to individual discussions with Mayor Dalziel, the delegations’ programmes include briefings from the Council,CERA and the Canterbury Development Corporation, and tours of the central city and Botanic Gardens.
