‘Star Car’ Driving Up Donations for Charity
‘Star Car’ Driving Up Donations for Charity
The Wellington City Mission’s new ‘Star Car’ is off to a roaring start. It’s a small Mission vehicle which has been converted into a mobile billboard and donation facility - equipped with cash donation slots and eftpos machines. Free chocolates gifted by Whittaker’s are being given out to Star Car donors as thanks.
As a part of The Mission’s revamped ‘Christmas Star Appeal’, the highly visible car is wrapped in a special ‘Be a Christmas Star’ graphic, and is being parked at locations such as local supermarkets, malls and Z Energy Stations throughout Greater Wellington until Christmas Eve. It will even be parked up at the T20 Cricket tournament at Westpac Stadium from 21-23 November.
For its first public appearance the Star Car was parked inside Westfield Queensgate Lower Hutt, and had an exceptional response. In the seven days it was there it raised just under $6,000.
Aside from cash and eftpos donations, would be donors can text “STAR CAR” to 4847 to make a $3 donation to the appeal.
Wellington City Mission Fundraising Manager Robbie Ross says: “We are thrilled with the public’s response to the Star Car, especially in light of the increased difficulty charities have faced over the last few years in trying to raise monetary donations.”
The Star Car will also be at the following locations through November and December: Countdown Churchill Drive (19 Nov) and Johnsonville (20 Nov), and North City Plaza (29-30 Nov). It will also make appearances during perennial favourite ‘Pack the Bus’ (24-28 Nov), at The Mission’s annual Street Day collection (5 Dec), the ‘Wellington Santa Parade’ (14 Dec), and at various Z Energy locations around Greater Wellington (between 9-22 Dec).
Wellington businesses continue to back The Mission’s Christmas Star Appeal, the Star Car supporters are: Datacom, Precinct Properties, Photography by Woolf, Wellington Firebirds, EFTPOS NZ, Whittaker’s Chocolate and Henshaw Signs.
