Mayor to present 2014 Civic Award winners
Mayor to present 2014 Civic Award winners at first ceremony since 2010
Mayor Lianne Dalziel will present Civic Awards to 12 community-minded individuals and organisations on Wednesday 10 December at a special ceremony.
The Christchurch City Council Civic Awards recognise individuals and groups whose voluntary work has made the city a better place to live. It will be the first ceremony since 2010. In 2012 the Council presented the Christchurch Earthquake Awards, which recognised acts of kindness, service or heroism during the earthquakes. There was no Award ceremony last year.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce the recipients of the Civic Award for 2014,” says Mayor Dalziel. “Each Award winner represents the highest ideal of citizenship – dedication and outstanding service to others. We are grateful and appreciative of their tremendous generosity and commitment to Christchurch.” she says.
This year’s recipients cover services to everything from mental health, Antarctic science and heritage preservation to local ethnic culture and families of children with neurological disorders.
The Civic Awards acknowledge substantial work, usually voluntary, that benefits the city of Christchurch and its people. The service can be for recreation, youth activities, social welfare, education, culture, religion or community affairs.
The Council called for nominations in September, and a full Council meeting decided on the successful recipients.
