Speech notes: Auckland Councillor Cameron Brewer – Westpac Auckland (Central) Business Awards 2014 - Gala Dinner, Langham Hotel, Auckland - Thursday, 13 November 2014:
Committed to driving economic transformation
Good evening.
It’s great to be here on behalf of Auckland Council for this fantastic night celebrating business excellence in the Central Auckland area.
Congratulations to all of tonight’s finalists and the winners announced so far.
You can all be immensely proud at reaching the pinnacle of business excellence in this city.
I am delighted to be speaking immediately after the innovation award and would like to add to the comments Brett O’Riley made in the video on behalf of Auckland Council’s economic growth agency ATEED.
And I would like to say isn’t Auckland and ATEED lucky to have Brett O’Riley? He came into the job when Aucklanders and the council wanted to have greater confidence in ATEED and he and his team has given us that confidence.
ATEED and Auckland Council are committed to driving economic transformation, pro-actively working with companies and our partners to ensure we lift our growth, export, and employment prospects.
That is core to the region’s Economic Development Strategy and we are all excited about Auckland’s economic future.
Our wide-ranging projects such as Grid A K L – Auckland’s fantastic new innovation precinct at Wynyard Quarter – and the Youth Employment Traction Hub will help to create high-tech jobs and grow the skilled workforce Auckland needs.
I also encourage you to sign the Employers’ Pledge and join our efforts to develop a workforce that has the right skills to help your companies grow and our region flourish.
Through ATEED, Council is proud to be associated with these Westpac Auckland Business Awards. Thank you to the other sponsors, particularly the Auckland Chamber Of Commerce, for making these awards possible.
Good luck to all of the finalists in the categories still to come
Have a great night.
Thank you
