Round the Bridges welcomes the Guitarnivores
Round the Bridges welcomes the Guitarnivores to the main stage for the anniversary event on Sunday.
Hitting the
main stage at the 70th anniversary of Round the Bridges is
last year’s SkyCity Hamilton HotSpots People’s Choice
winner, the Guitarnivores.
The popular band is made up of students from Hamilton’s St Johns College.
The band will be putting their best foot forward to impress once again, this time entertaining runners and walkers after they have completed their race.
St John’s College Music Teacher Nathan Aish says the band is thrilled to be invited to perform at the event once again.
“We had a lot of fun at last year’s event. There are lots of characters out on course so they actually ended up entertaining us as well. The boys and I were really stoked to win the People’s Choice award for HotSpots, selected by votes from participants.
There is plenty of entertainment in store from The Guitarnivores for the big 70th birthday bash.
“We like to interact with the crowd quite a bit. The music is a lot of fun and the focus is all about entertaining and responding to the crowd. One of our favourite tunes is a medley of popular covers that everyone knows and loves,” Nathan says.
This year the step up to the main stage in Garden Place means a lot for the secondary school students.
“This year the band has grown and there are lots of new guys. Within the school culture the Gutairnivores is definitely something to strive for – it’s like the First XV of music. It’s a really great opportunity for the boys to showcase their musical skills to a big local audience. We’re really looking forward to it,” Nathan says.
