Nominations open for 2015 Hastings Civic Awards
Hastings District Council is calling for nominations for the 2015 Civic Honours Awards.
The awards recognise an individual, group or organisation that has contributed significantly to Hastings District. This year (2014) nine individuals and one group were presented with civic awards for their outstanding work in the community.
Nominations can be placed in the following categories: arts and culture, health and welfare, sport and recreation, education and youth, new volunteer and youth volunteer.
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says “Each year, volunteers from around the Hastings District make an enormous contribution to society. The value of volunteers is often underestimated and the Civic Honours Awards are a fantastic way of giving them the recognition that they so richly deserve.”
Lawrence Yule says “Volunteers contribute in so many ways to our community. You will find them everywhere, giving their expertise in education, sport, the arts and search and rescue amongst others.”
“If you know of someone who has given great service to the community, please put in a nomination. We need to hear about these people in order to recognise them at the awards ceremony,” Mr Yule says.
The nominations will be judged by the Council’s Civic Awards subcommittee before the presentations are made at a ceremony on the 25th May 2015.
Nominations close on Friday 13th February 2015 and forms are available from the Hastings, Havelock North and Flaxmere libraries and from Council’s Service Centre in Lyndon Road.
Nomination forms can also be downloaded or completed online at www.hastingsdc.govt.nz/civicawards
