Improvements to Libraries’ Management System
Dunedin (Wednesday, 12 November 2014) – Dunedin Public Libraries are moving to a newer version of its library management system which will bring benefits for library Dunedin Public Libraries Manager Collections and Access Linda Geddes says the new system will have an improved search capability.
“It will enable people to access not just books and other library items, but our electronic databases as well. With one search in the catalogue you can search a wide range of databases from New Zealand and around the world, including the full text of many magazine and journal articles.
“In the longer term, the new system will mean people can download e-books directly from the catalogue.”
Switching to the new system means the Libraries’ catalogue will be unavailable from 6.30pm on Monday, 17 November until Thursday, 20 November.
Ms Geddes says when the catalogue is unavailable people will not be able to renew or put holds on items, or check their records. However, in other respects it is business as usual and people can continue to borrow and return items.
The new software is used by more than 20 public libraries throughout the country as members of the national Kotui Consortium.
